Coronavirus and golf

We hope you are all keeping well in these surreal times.

Our first fixture for the year is the Fun Game on 27th March.  We plan to go ahead with this if there are takers.  Getting out for some fresh air, practising our golf and getting some social life (at a distance from each other) is probably all good.

Our policy, unless we get further directives from Boris or Edinburgh Leisure takes the matter out of our hands, is that we will go ahead with our fixtures.  However, we will try to minimise coming into close contact with each other before and after the golf.  To this end, there will continue to be a draw so that you don’t have to hang around inside waiting for your tee time.  If you are coming early please try to remember not to put yourself or others at risk of being in too close proximity to each other.  This means waiting outside rather than inside before teeing off.  People will still have to go inside to pay but we should maintain the distance of 1.5 metres from each other. Try and pay by card rather than cash and if you’re using the facilities, try to use paper towel to touch door handles etc.

Please also try to comply with the instructions we’ve been getting about hand washing and not touching your face especially if we’re handling each other’s cards.  We may have to find another way of doing cards as time goes by - possibly just agreeing the scores but signing only your own card and sending a photo to the person on duty.

On the course, try to avoid touching communal things as much as possible.  For example, you can leave the flag in and rake the bunker with a gloved hand.  And, of course no handshakes and hugs at the end.  A namaste or the Wuhan shake (tapping feet) will have to do.

Sadly, there will be no socialising over cups of coffee and biscuits afterwards.

Finally, it goes without saying, please don’t come out and play if you’re feeling at all under the weather.

Keep healthy all.  Let’s hope we get through this quickly.
