All Edinburgh Leisure venues, including the golf courses, have had to close until further notice due to the Covid 19 crisis.

The government announcement made on 23rd March means that no further golf may be played until the current restrictions are lifted.

All Comiston fixtures are, sadly, cancelled until further notice.

Stay healthy everyone.

We hope you are all keeping well in these surreal times.

Our first fixture for the year is the Fun Game on 27th March.  We plan to go ahead with this if there are takers.  Getting out for some fresh air, practising our golf and getting some social life (at a distance from each other) is probably all good.

Our policy, unless we get further directives from Boris or Edinburgh Leisure takes the matter out of our hands, is that we will go ahead with our fixtures.  However, we will try to minimise coming into close contact with each other before and after the golf.  To this end, there will continue to be a draw so that you don’t have to hang around inside waiting for your tee time.  If you are coming early please try to remember not to put yourself or others at risk of being in too close proximity to each other.  This means waiting outside rather than inside before teeing off.  People will still have to go inside to pay but we should maintain the distance of 1.5 metres from each other. Try and pay by card rather than cash and if you’re using the facilities, try to use paper towel to touch door handles etc.

Please also try to comply with the instructions we’ve been getting about hand washing and not touching your face especially if we’re handling each other’s cards.  We may have to find another way of doing cards as time goes by - possibly just agreeing the scores but signing only your own card and sending a photo to the person on duty.

On the course, try to avoid touching communal things as much as possible.  For example, you can leave the flag in and rake the bunker with a gloved hand.  And, of course no handshakes and hugs at the end.  A namaste or the Wuhan shake (tapping feet) will have to do.

Sadly, there will be no socialising over cups of coffee and biscuits afterwards.

Finally, it goes without saying, please don’t come out and play if you’re feeling at all under the weather.

Keep healthy all.  Let’s hope we get through this quickly.

100 Comiston members and their guests rocked up to Carrickvale GC for the Fun Night fundraiser on 28th February. A successful evening was assured with 136 tickets having been sold as well as all the horses, jockeys and trainers available for sale beforehand. In addition, the response from members for raffle prizes was brilliant with over 50 raffle prizes being donated.
James, from Premier Disco, ran the evening entertainment with panache (although next time we might try to get our phones set up for the interactive quiz in advance) and did a fantastic job of building up the auction for the horses in the final race. Congratulations to the winning team led, appropriately, by Captain Viv Curran.
Particular thanks to Susan Randall who organised the event with Premier Disco and Carrickvale. These events demand lots of effort and participation from a wide range of people so thank you to all who bought tickets (whether or not they could attend), made donations of money and prizes, helped with the organisation on the night and brought along guests. Superb effort!
The money raised from ticket sales, horse/jockey/owner sales, donations and money raised on the actual evening of the Fun Night came to just over £2000. Together with funds already raised from corporate donations and from Comiston's own funds, we now have £4500 set aside for hosting the MM in 2021. We are in excellent financial shape as we think this is pretty much the funds we will require to host the event.
Congratulations to Comiston members for a sterling effort. Now we can concentrate on enjoying our Centenary year.

Winners of the interactive quiz. Looks like the photographer had had a few shandies and struggled to keep a steady hand 😜
Cheering on the horses at the races.
