It was hot again but the greens were well watered and slow which still gets some getting used to. 14 of us played at various times of the day with varying results! 4 were in their buffer but again someone managed to reduce her handicap - Amanda with a winning 41 points bringing her handicap down to 25. Well done Amanda. CSS 71

Scottish Golf Captains and Secretary Competition
Our Captain Janet and Secretary Gail ventured to Hayston in the Campsies on 24 July to play in a qualifier for this competition run by Scottish Golf. Hayston was a lovely course through trees and hills with some interesting par 3s as well as longish par 5s. It was a pleasant, not too sunny, day. Janet and Gail were part of a very small female minority and played alongside a genial pair from Kingsfield, one of whom who drove periodically about 300 yards. In a better ball format Janet and Gail managed to mostly keep up the middle and at most holes have one decent score. Thus somewhat to their surprise they qualified in the first eight (number 8) for the final in Crieff in September. More to follow!
July Medal
12 played with the morning group just getting in before the first rain for a month of so. With the ball running on the burnt ground but with the greens watered and not as fast as in the past, 2 of us reduced their handicap and 5 more buffered. Caspin Lynch won with a net 66 getting her handicap down by 2. She is now into the silver. Well done her. Jane Hannam had the best gross score on countback of 80. Gail Joughin was second twice ! - with a net 67 and a gross 80 but she did get her handicap down to 12. CSS 70.
Morison Millar
The extraordinary weather continued to shine on the Morison Millar at Swanston. The course looked stunning although the bounces on the hard ground were unforgiving. Our team of Anne Brownie, Sally Brian, Janet Reid Thomas and Gail Joughin finished 4th from 32 with 303 which merited a prize! There were a few 'ifs' to allow us to imagine a better finish but the winners, Murrayfield B with 289 were well ahead so well done them. The organisation of the whole thing on and off the course was terrific. A good day even if it did end with sore feet.
