Well, it's been a very busy week for some of us.  Quite a number of Comiston ladies were playing in the Scottish Senior Women's Championships at Aberdour this week.  After two rounds of stroke play off the white tees, Mandy qualified for the scratch matchplay section - an impressive achievement.  Sarah L, Jaci M, Coleen and Susan R all qualified for the nett matchplay competition.  Sarah and Jaci played each other in a closely fought semi-final - clearly good practice for Sarah who then went on to win the final quite convincingly with a 4&2 victory over her opponent.  Huge congratulations to all of the participants and especially to Sarah on a spectacularly successful week of golf.

In rather tamer news, the four stalwarts who were undeterred by the dismal weather forecast, played in the extra June medal today.  It's a pity so many others cancelled as the weather forecast (as is often the case) was many times worse than the weather which, although chilly, was perfectly dry.  Anyway, a few league points is the reward for those who did show up!  Viv M played best and would have played in her buffer, in old money.  Well done Viv.

Yesterday Gail and Sarah B travelled to Milnathort to represent Comiston in the R&A 9 hole challenge Scottish final.  Despite a) managing (quite by chance) to look like the best dressed team, in blue and white stripes and b) having Susan R and Diane's performance of a couple of years ago to inspire them, it was not to be.  Perhaps just as well as Kent feels a long way away and they are busy ladies!  In any event, they acquitted themselves well and Sarah in particular had a good score of 18 and also featured (with Gail looking stripey and a bit nautical in the background) in Scottish Golf's twitter feed.  Well done to you both.

There is always a lot riding on the June medal - in addition to the medal there is the Centenary Salver for best nett score and the top 8 scratch scores qualify for the Championship knock outs.  Today saw 19 of us (there were a few withdrawals) turn up for these various challenges.  It was a classically confrontational Braids day with a strong and gusty West wind which made a difficult back nine made even more so.  If you didn't have three off the tee at some point you considered yourself lucky.  The 14th in particular proved very demanding with people racking up big numbers on that hole.  Janet came through on top with a nett 71, followed closely by Susan R and Sandra, both on nett 73.  Well done everyone getting round the course today.

Viv has circulated the draw for the Championship knockouts and this will be on the website soon.

Another cracking day for the 18 competitors in the June stableford.  The course is looking in good nick although the greens are very furry and you can lose a ball just a couple of inches off the fairway with the grass and vegetation being so lush.  The scores were fairly close although there should be a saying in Comiston golf "Beware the Moriarty" because so often Jaci comes in late with the winning score.  This time she pipped Sarah B (on 35 points) to the post, followed by a gaggle of 34s.  Congratulations Jaci - as Jane said, a perfect 36.
