Today felt like quite a momentous occasion - an outing outwith Lothian, going into a clubhouse and eating and socialising with others!  A happy coincidence that our Spring outing fell on this day.

Twenty-one Comiston members joined the trip to Aberdour for a triam followed by soup and sandwiches.  Despite a discouraging forecast we didn't get wet and even the hardy people in shorts and cut-offs seemed to survive alright.  The format was a yellow ball stableford with two scores, one of which had to be the person with the yellow ball on that hole, counting and with the yellow ball holder's score being doubled.  You would think this would result in big numbers but turns out this is not necessarily the case!  Having said that, some managed OK and the winning team comprising Sarah L, Bev and Elaine came in with 104 points with Janet, Zandra and Maggie runners up with 101 points.

It was very jolly seeing everyone afterwards and though the soup was delicious the new caterers on their first day at Aberdour were a bit haphazard in their sandwich production and communication.  However no one starved and Viv C organised enough chocolates to keep us all going in the interim.

Today was the first qualifying competition of the season and also the first competition with Comiston members using the SG app for scoring.

We couldn't have asked for a better day and, whatever the golf, it was a treat to be out on the Braids in the sun with those views across Edinburgh.  There was a good turnout of 19 players after 4 withdrawals for injury or family related reasons.

Anne led the field with a very tidy nett 73 ("putted like a god" according to her playing partners!) and Kelly in hot pursuit with nett 74.  Remember everyone - Viv M is running a league this year (the prize being the trophy donated by Gail) with points awarded for playing in each competition and for the first few placed players each time.  Another incentive, if one were needed, for playing.

The majority of people managed to use the app for their scoring although there were some glitches with people not being able to sign their partner's card at the end.  Luckily all of the Lochend ladies have been practising using the app and there were enough of them spread about the field to assist with the newbies amongst us.  Sue F has done a heroic job setting VMS up with all our competitions and seems to have successfully navigated the glitches that arose today so congratulations to her.  Huge thanks also to Coleen D who has provided a lot of behind the scenes help and coaching to us in using VMS.
