A group of Comiston Ladies headed off to Arran this week to take part in the Arran Challenge. The group was depleted at the outset by Gail having to pull out due to having picked up some lurgy and having lost her voice (very bad!) after too much jollying in London the previous weekend but the remaining troops headed off for the three day trip. They enjoyed three very different days of golf: Day 1 in glorious sunshine, Day 2 in high winds and rain and Day 3 in calm and pleasant conditions. Some good and some bad golf was played by all but the daily sweep for the team competition kept everyone focussed. Anne Brownie won the overall Arran Challenge winning score of the day on Day 2 in the Gibson Cup-like conditions, Janet Reid Thomas won the overall Arran Challenge winning score of the day on Day 3 and Ellie Fergusson, Viv Mitchell and Anne Brownie all had twos. Far too much food (very good!) and drink was consumed and a lot of cards and silly games played.

Let’s do it all again next year!

Long time Comiston Member, Anne Brownie and her partner Mary Stark won the Gibson Cup for the third time.  The qualifying day on Saturday was played in benign autumn weather but the two match play rounds on Sunday were played in increasing wind which was attritional by the end.  Everyone did well to finish still holding on to their trolley.  So well done to Anne and Mary.  (They were obviously only warming up in our Triam on Monday!).   Well done to another of our members, Sarah Ledingham and her partner Mandy Bell who were the runners up.  They received their trophies from Clifford Hastings whose late wife Isobel Hastings was also a long time Comiston member and won the Gibson Cup 9 times.

And very well done to another of our Members Christine Clements who won the Second Flight Claret Jug with her partner Carol Brown.

And a mention to other Comiston members, Jacky Burnett and Viv Curran (last year's winner) who also qualified for the match play for the cup.  Congratulations all!

Amanda Northridge won the Midlothian Bronze Hole and Hole today at the Braids beating Turnhouse's Shelagh McComiskey in the final.  It was a good match with Shelagh putting well but Amanda put all that Braids experience to very good use and apparently didnt even lose a ball.  Very well done to her.
