The Midlothian Championship knockout stages took place at Dalmahoy East over Easter weekend and rewarded those who had qualified with perfect golfing conditions and warm sunshine.

Comiston members were represented in good numbers with Louise Fraser, Mandy McBain, Susan Randall and Janet Reid Thomas all into the knockout stages for the Championship and Fiona Findlay, Captain Viv Mitchell and Jacky Burnett all qualifying for the B Championship knockouts.

Louise made it successfully through her four matches and is now County Champion - many congratulations, Louise. Fiona made it to the 19th hole of the final in a tightly contested match that could well have gone the other way but she lost out to her opponent courtesy of an unhelpful fairway bunker. Great effort, Fiona. Both Louise and Fiona presumably also earned great suntans too, after being out both days in the glorious weather.

Twelve people played in the first qualifying competition of the season and were rewarded for their efforts with near perfect weather; chilly but bright and very little wind. Diane Moncrieff made a statement of intent for her season with an excellent 69 and Mandy McBain was a competitive second with 72. Great start!

Anne Brownie and Sandra Ashurst also did the first 50:50 draw for 2019 with Maggie Salmond and Susan Randall being the lucky winners.

2018 Comiston Champion, Viv Curran, played Alyson Scrimgeour away at Dundas Park in the Champion of Champions knockout last week. It was a tight match, finishing on the 18th, but sadly Viv was knocked out. Apparently Alyson was putting well and it's always a tougher match for the person playing away. Commiserations Viv.

28 Comiston members and their partners took part in the Kingsknowe Greensomes on Friday 5th April.

Happily for us, Friday was a sunny (if cold and windy) day sandwiched between a very wet Thursday and a very foggy Saturday. Scoring well was hard but several of the Comiston pairs managed it. Chris Hochstrasser and her partner won the Comiston event, with Sally Brian and her partner a close second and Viv Curran and her partner not far behind. Chris and Sally plus partners also featured in the overall event prizes. Louise Fraser won longest drive for in the silver category with a colossal drive and Bev Winton's partner won longest drive in the bronze category. Sue Marwick and her partner were one of four two's - impressive in the windy conditions, and Sarah Ledingham and her mum (ex-Comiston member, Carolyn Hannay) won nearest the pin in two on the 18th. All told, a very respectable performance from Comiston. The only negative was that Gail had to retire injured - we hope you're fighting fit again soon.

Thanks to all who took part.

Congratulations to Coleen Derighetti and Jaci Moriarty who won the Midlothian Winter Foursomes. Their opponents from Turnhouse were three up with three to play but Jaci and Coleen staged a bit of fight back to take the title after nineteen holes. Apparently a close fought match that, according to Coleen, could have gone either way. A great achievement.
