Comiston held the rescheduled triam today.  MUCH better conditions, although the weather on the first date set a very low bar!  Not everyone who had signed up first time round was able to play but some people who didn't sign up first time round were now able to play so it all worked out nicely and we had 16 teams of Comiston members and friends.

Kirstin Everett very kindly came up to send all the teams off and divvy out the cards, chocolates (for which, thank you, Viv C) and Comiston centenary markers for the guests.  It was quite chilly work but Kirstin has a well trained husband and dog and they came up with a cup of coffee to keep her going.  Lovely to see you again Kirstin and hope you'll be back for golf before long.

As ever, the Braids doesn't always provide the ideal vehicle for member recruitment ⛰⛳️🤪, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the scores were fairly respectable with 63-69 being where most teams ended up.  Sue F, Coleen and Anne Beedie (from Glencorse) came second with 76, but well out in front was the winning team comprising Maggie, Sarah B and Mary Stark with a very splendid 82 points (wow!) - winners of the Comiston quaichs.  Special mention should be made of Sarah B's personal score of 45 stableford points.  Why oh why oh why was that not a qualifying competition 😭?  Don't worry Sarah, I expect the handicap secretary is taking a look at it right now!

Most people went in to the Edinburgh Western GC clubhouse for tea/coffee and home baking afterwards where Sarah L did sterling service producing tea and coffee all afternoon.  Thank you very much Sarah.  Thank you also to those who did the baking.

The winning team: Sarah B, Maggie and Mary
In second place - Sue F, Coleen and Anne Beedie

The Tex Mex competition at Prestonfield today brought us to the end of our Centenary celebrations.  The planned joint celebration with Prestonfield had been due to take place earlier in the season, but despite the delay and despite the rather soggy day, Anne's organisation resulted in a very enjoyable event.  The competition was a Tex Mex with teams of three comprising a mix of Comiston members/past members and Prestonfield members followed by a delicious (and hefty!) lasagna in the clubhouse with a wonderful view over Arthurs Seat.

Comiston and Prestonfield exchanged club ball markers and pens as momentos of the occasion and Comiston gave Prestonfield a specially commissioned glass bowl with a Centenary inscription for the ladies' locker room as thanks for Prestonfield's hospitality - look out for this next time you play at Prestonfield.  Both Anne and Marion Law from Prestonfield said a few words and recalled the long history of matches played between Comiston and Prestonfield and the number of players that have been members, over the years, of both clubs.  Fittingly, Elsa was there, wearing both of her Comiston and Prestonfield hats.

The team of Karina, Christine Clements, and Hilary Speirs from Prestonfield won the Tex Mex and the team of Jaci, Maxi, and Fiona Montgomery from Prestonfield were runners up.

Once again, many many thanks to Anne for all of the considerable energy and organisation that she has put into the Centenary celebrations, and to Sandra for providing much appreciated back up.
