There were 18 people in today's competition and everyone must have been delighted to be out in still, sunny conditions.  Once again, fabulous conditions do not necessarily result in fabulous scores, although it clearly suited Bev who notched up an impressive 38 points to win the competition.  Congratulations Bev - persistence pays with the Braids and it looks like you've got it figured!  There were a number of other respectable scores with Viv C on 36 points and Maggie, Gail and Mandy all coming in with 35 points.

A nice surprise for all those who played in the main draw, were the Centenary gifts that Anne B was distributing following her WhatsApp message last night.  Each Comiston member is getting one of these gifts in lieu of the many Centenary celebrations that had been planned but that we will be unable to have.  Apparently the cat is out of the bag as to what the gift is, so here is the very smart Chilly water bottle in Comiston centenary gold that we are all going to receive.  A great idea and something that everyone will find very useful.  Thank you!

At long last, one of the many events carefully planned and organised by Anne Brownie (assisted by Sandra Ashurst), could take place: the friendly team match against Liberton.  Eleven pairs from each club played at Liberton yesterday afternoon in a greensomes format.  The weather was very promising at the outset and we were rather taken by surprise when the heavens opened mid-round but it didn't dampen the enjoyment of the event.  Rather fittingly, the overall result was a half, with a number of matches going all the way to the 18th (Comiston Ladies like to maximise their golf!)

Liberton provided an appetising afternoon tea (which Comiston contributed to the cost of) and a number of past Comiston members, Catriona Shedden, Marion Cantlay and Carol Smith, attended the afternoon tea, which added a feeling of club continuity to the occasion.  Anne Brownie and Fiona Hume said a few brief words and the teams exchanged Centenary ball markers as momentos.

Thanks to all who participated and particular thanks to Anne and Sandra.  Hope to see many of you at the hickory event at the Braids and at the match against Prestonfield.

The Centenary markers that were exchanged

Today's result just goes to prove that if you're playing good golf, the weather is irrelevant.  While the rest of us were bemoaning the challenging conditions, Viv C went out and scored a gross 79 (3 under her handicap) in the wind, rain and sun this afternoon.  Carol, Viv's playing partner, came in second which also goes to show that, sometimes at least, virtuous behaviour is rewarded; as Viv and Carol had pulled out of the main draw to play later so that they could join the divot repairing party at Mortonhall in the morning. 😇

For the also rans, we mostly left the course with our tails between our legs, but we all enjoyed the company and the challenge that the Braids always provides!  Well done everyone who went out.  League points all round.
