Rosemary Williamson at the Gibson Cup registration

It is with much sadness that we announce the deaths last week of two previous members of Comiston Ladies, Rosemary Williamson (85) and Pat Purser (92).

Pat Purser was a member of Comiston in the late 80s and into the 90s and was in fact the proposer for Rosemary Williamson when Rosemary joined the club in 1999.  Both ladies were also members of Craigmillar Park GC.
Pat had not played golf for many years up to her death and had been housebound latterly, but until she could no longer go out she remained heavily involved with many aspects of life at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Newington, where she is remembered with great fondness. She was also a keen scrabble player. Pat leaves behind three children and several grandchildren.

Rosemary Williamson died aged 85 at Glencairn House here in Edinburgh.  Rosemary had a long and august history with golf and with Comiston: she was Captain in 2007, Treasurer immediately thereafter until 2013 and Honorary Member of Comiston Ladies.  Rosemary was related to one of the founding members of Comiston Ladies, Mrs JN Williamson, who was the first Captain of the club.  She also helped run the Gibson Cup check-in desk for many years from 2005 until 2017/18 where her welcoming manner and unflappable demeanour was appreciated by the organisers and participants alike. Rosemary was a clever and knowledgeable woman and was a lover of the arts and widely travelled.  She was witty with a dry sense of humour, an excellent storyteller and her presence at Comiston dinners and other functions was always welcomed.  She played golf well into her 70s, carrying her clubs!

We send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Pat and Rosemary.
